Magazine Oh Magazine

Two words for you. Teen magazines. Are they taking over the planet? Do we all base our fashion lives on the magazines that simply go with the flow? Of course, I do read one or two of these magazines and I have an unhealthy obssesion with People. I do not however base everything I wear on these magazines. That would be a terrible injustice to being a Style Misfit hmmm? I suppose I am asking you all many questions and that is not my job.
So teen mags. A majority of the pages are ads for clothing, deodarant, perfume, TV shows, ect. This would be a blatant example of marketers trying to poison the minds of young girls everywhere. The rest of the pages have a suprisingly little to do with the fashions of today. More than likely there are articles about life or the personal styles of bloggers and writers. This is to bad because we really could use a good fashion icon or magazine that actually talks about fashion. So my friends? What do you think? Tell your friends, discuss it! These magazines in my opinion have a tendancy to be intresting for a while and then bore us to death. You want a real fashion trend experience? Go to a store you can't afford and take notes. Teens can learn a surprising amount from just looking. Have fun!

Oh Chanel!

"There have been many Duchesses of Westminster. There is only one Chanel." Coco Chanel
Of any designer, I admire Chanel the most. She rose up from her life in the orphange to become a style icon. Coco designs with a menswear inspired flourish that has defined today's fashion world. One thing that Chanel basically created was the use of jersey. Originally, jersey was used for men's underwear. Coco was probably the first big designer to use the material in women's wear.
Many designers have tries to rival Chanel but none can touch her. She is the Georgia O' Keefe of fashion. Defying and defining everything. Even today, after her death, Coco affects us. Chanel is still one of the biggest brands out there and the clothes are beautiful because they are the shadow of so many women's personalities. Gorgeous, chic, flattering clothing has always been the peak of the Chanel mountain. This line has become less of a boutique somewhere in France and more of a market giant. Does this bother us? No it does not!
Chanel is fabulous and I cannot say that it will never be. So Coco, you are forever in our hearts and in our closets.

Hmm Less About Fashion

Gonna' talk about life stuff now. Such as the shows that depict families trading places. Watching one right now. I guess this isn't about life but it is about someone's life sooooo... If you have ever seen one of these shows you know that they are so artificial. These people are very set on their ways. Their are little kids that throw fits because they cannot do the things that they are used to doing. I am sorry but it is sad if your kid cries because he has to pick out his own clothes. This is just showing how dependent our generation is becoming. At a time where independence is so needed adults are teaching their kids to do nothing for themselves. Course there is the other side of the spectrum where the kids hardly ever see their parents. Kids who have drivers and nannies and everything like that. Well I'll leave you to think about that. Bye!

Alexander Wang Spring/Summer 2010

Hey everyone. I'm going to go ahead and discuss the Alexander Wang Spring and Summer collection. Very casual, muted colors, but not very cohesive in my opinion. To much of the collection is tomboy-ish and then you see girly, flowy skirts with open front tops. Which is another thing about the line. Most of the tops have open fronts exposing cut-off tanks or sports bras. (Oooooohhhh the forbidden word) However, if you do like the style of the collection, buy it!!!
Course there are us middle class teens who buy our cloths from Kohl's and sometimes American Eagle. (Mini smile) So you need to find a place that sells similar clothes much cheaper. The collection isn't really my style so I can't give ya'll a place.
What I do know is that it really is quite easy to find a cheap store. A lot of designers do collaborations with Target so you can get your designer clothing fix from there.
Well that's all for now but be expecting a lot of posts from me since it's summer. I don't have a lot to do right now so this blog will get a LOT larger. (Smile) Byyeeeeeee!!!!

Tavi Mania

K' everyone. The title should be enough to tell you what I am talking about. Tavi, the 14 year old fashion blogger, and a personal hero of mine, is becoming an obssesion. Tavi gets the top seats at fashion shows and goes back stage with designers and TV just to discuss her opinion. What makes people like Tavi so popular? She is like us. She is such a teen and it shows in her blog, "The Style Rookie". The point of her blogs being that anyone can love fashion.
This point is completley true. We see it every day, girls shopping at Ralph Lauren and sipping from Starbuck's cups, the Clique series, and all fashion blogs. So why are so many people looked down upon for their love of fashion? Tavi has been called out for dressing beyond her years. I find that this is not a problem. Fashion is about freedom, plain and simple. We should be able to wear whatever we want! Why be in the restaints of a world that does not appreciate our style. Well I have said my piece and I smell cinnamon rolls so bye and stay creative!

Hello World!

Hiiiii everyone!!! As you can see I am ubder excited as this is my first post. And first blog for that matter. I guess I can start by telling you about myself. My name is Alex Matten AKA The Style Misfit which I totally am. I created this blog as an online diary and a way for me to connect to the fashion lovin' teenagers in the world. On this blog I suppose I should talk about fashion but be warned, I will be extremely critical. But for the things that I love, I will push them down your throat.
A few examples of what I call being a fashion misfit: Your first thought of an American Eagle shirt is to pair it with a skirt and suspenders.
You look up to Tavi. She is extremely under appreciated.
You own a DIY shirt.
You are on this blog.
Ok so that is about it and I fit all descripitions very well, thank you very much. All righty this will probably be my shortest post ever. But I assure you I will post again!
